L’Hôtel de l’Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud
Fontevraud, France
Interior Architecture and Design: Agence Jouin Manku
Located at the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage-listed abbey, the Saint-Lazare Priory has been reimagined as a contemporary hotel concept that harmonizes with the monastic spirit of the site. The purity and simplicity of the lines invite guests to experience the essential. The deliberately reduced palette of colours and materials reinforces a raw authenticity, where luxury lies in the refinement of details and the quality of the materials. Every space has been designed with particular attention to acoustics and lighting, creating havens of peace and serenity.
For this magnificent project, Brossier Saderne manufactured the metal floor lamp for the central staircase, as well as the long, poetic row of candle-like lamps placed at the centre of the banquet table. Our lacquered metal table lamps illuminate the tables in the old cloister, and our triptych floor lamps in wood and metal, whose shades combine copper mesh and double textile shades for optimal light diffusion, can be found everywhere. The wall lights in the 54 rooms were also crafted in our workshops. These ingenious mobile systems feature a folded lacquered metal cone combined with a sliding perforated panel.
